The record for this marine invertebrate animal is one of 150,097 gathered through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.15468\/ldch7a\">BioObs<\/a>\u00a0(<em>Base pour l\u2019Inventaire des Observations Subaquatiques<\/em>), a citizen science tool that enables divers to learn about the marine environment while contributing to a national inventory of underwater species.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GBIF\u2019s global occurrence index provides an unequaled evidence base for informing scientific research and policy through its support of \u2018big data\u2019 analyses.\u00a0On average,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbif.org\/resource\/search?contentType=literature&amp;literatureType=journal&amp;relevance=GBIF_USED&amp;peerReview=true\">nearly two peer-reviewed research papers appear each day that rely on data accessed through GBIF.org<\/a>.\u00a0However, the findings are not limited to research and management topics but also address topics\u00a0like\u00a0food security\u00a0or the\u00a0monitoring of human diseases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recent and ongoing improvements to the network\u2019s underlying technology platforms have produced a high-volume, near-real-time infrastructure prepared to build on\u00a0GBIF.org\u2019s rapid recent growth\u00a0to deliver even greater and richer quantities of biodiversity information in the years to come.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although reaching 1 billion records is a significant milestone, much work remains to be done, including expanding the partnerships needed to link sources of biodiversity data not yet connected through the GBIF network.
