\"Armand-Rausell-Moreno,<\/p>\n

Armand Rausell Moreno<\/strong>, un joven bi\u00f3logo espa\u00f1ol, es uno de los dos ganadores del Premio GBIF J\u00f3venes Investigadores 2022<\/strong>. Este programa anual fomenta y reconoce la investigaci\u00f3n innovadora y el descubrimiento en inform\u00e1tica de la biodiversidad entre estudiantes graduados, nominados por los pa\u00edses participantes en GBIF.<\/p>\n

Armand acaba de completar su M\u00e1ster Universitario en Biodiversidad en \u00c1reas Tropicales en la Universidad Internacional Men\u00e9ndez Pelayo (CSIC-UIMP)<\/a> y trabaja actualmente como t\u00e9cnico graduado en el Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Un jurado compuesto por expertos ha decidido premiar a Armand, que fue propuesto por la delegaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola de GBIF, por su investigaci\u00f3n en el desarrollo de un proceso sencillo, reproducible y asequible para identificar la diversidad que puede ocultarse dentro de especies descritas que ocupan una variedad de nichos ambientales y presentan una gama variable de rasgos morfol\u00f3gicos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Habitualmente, la tarea de detectar especies ocultas dentro de taxones m\u00e1s amplios se lleva a cabo mediante t\u00e9cnicas de an\u00e1lisis molecular y secuenciaci\u00f3n de ADN, pero estas t\u00e9cnicas son caras y a menudo inabordables a gran escala.<\/p>\n

El enfoque de Armand, sin embargo, se basa en el concepto de especiaci\u00f3n ecol\u00f3gica<\/strong>, una forma de divergencia por selecci\u00f3n natural, bien documentada, que se produce cuando diferentes poblaciones de organismos quedan aisladas entre s\u00ed debido a factores ecol\u00f3gicos. Mediante el uso de software<\/strong>, es posible combinar t\u00e9cnicas de modelado de nichos ecol\u00f3gicos y agrupaci\u00f3n con datos sobre la presencia y ubicaci\u00f3n de especies conocidas<\/strong>, como los que se recogen en GBIF<\/strong>, para detectar la presencia de diversas especies donde hasta ahora se consideraba que solo hab\u00eda una<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Sobre la base de los resultados obtenidos hasta la fecha, esta metodolog\u00eda promete ser \u00fatil para delimitar poblaciones de especies”, afirma Armand. “En algunos casos, hemos podido clasificar individuos correctamente dentro de sus poblaciones determinadas gen\u00e9ticamente con una precisi\u00f3n de hasta el 92 por ciento antes de proporcionar al algoritmo ninguna informaci\u00f3n sobre asignaciones de clado procedentes de los estudios filogen\u00e9ticos”.<\/p>\n

“Armand es un estudiante aplicado y comprometido con su carrera en el campo de la biolog\u00eda de la conservaci\u00f3n y la biodiversidad”, declar\u00f3 Javier Di\u00e9guez Uribeondo, Vicedirector de Investigaci\u00f3n en el Real Jard\u00edn Bot\u00e1nico (CSIC-RBJ), uno de los 120 institutos de investigaci\u00f3n que comprende el CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas). “Su inter\u00e9s por la investigaci\u00f3n resulta evidente a la vista de sus excelentes resultados, que demuestran el potencial de este enfoque para realizar an\u00e1lisis a gran escala que permitan identificar instancias potenciales de especiaci\u00f3n ecol\u00f3gica”.<\/p>\n

“Armand estableci\u00f3 claramente el objetivo de su tesis tras haber considerado todos los posibles problemas que podr\u00eda afrontar, lo que puso de manifiesto su mentalidad anal\u00edtica y algo que yo definir\u00eda como el brillo del investigador, algo que no es habitual entre los estudiantes de M\u00e1ster”, dice Jes\u00fas Mu\u00f1oz, investigador del RBJ-CSIC y director de tesis de Armand. “Su estudio abre nuevas v\u00edas de investigaci\u00f3n para acelerar la detecci\u00f3n es especies cr\u00edpticas o que se pasan por alto y, posiblemente, contribuir\u00e1 a reducir el efecto del impedimento taxon\u00f3mico que afrontar la mayor\u00eda de los grupos de organismos”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Armand es el tercer estudiante espa\u00f1ol que gana este premio, tras Nora Escribano<\/a> y Julen Torrens Baile<\/a><\/strong>, ambos de la Universidad de Navarra<\/a>, que lo ganaron en 2017 y 2021, respectivamente.<\/p>\n

Armand Rausell Moreno comparte el galard\u00f3n de 2022 con Christopher Schiller<\/strong>, de la Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin. Cada uno de ellos recibir\u00e1 un premio de 5000 EUR.<\/p>\n
