El Premio GBIF a Investigadores Graduados 2025 de GBIF ha sido concedido a Esteban Marentes Herrera<\/a>, estudiante de m\u00e1ster en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Cali (Colombia), y a Kumdet Panshak Solomon<\/a><\/strong>, doctorando en la Universidad de Jos (Nigeria).<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Este galard\u00f3n internacional reconoce la excelencia en investigaci\u00f3n innovadora<\/strong> basada en datos de biodiversidad<\/strong> disponibles a trav\u00e9s de la red de GBIF<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los trabajos premiados<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

El proyecto de Esteban Marentes<\/a><\/strong> se centra en el uso de datos de GBIF para estimar la diversidad de cole\u00f3pteros en Colombia, un grupo clave para comprender la salud de los ecosistemas tropicales. Su investigaci\u00f3n combina registros abiertos con enfoques de modelizaci\u00f3n para mejorar el conocimiento sobre la distribuci\u00f3n de estos insectos y apoyar estrategias de conservaci\u00f3n. Con este reconocimiento, Marentes se convierte en el d\u00e9cimo estudiante de Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Caribe<\/strong> en recibir el premio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por su parte, Kumdet Panshak Solomon<\/a><\/strong> ha sido distinguido por su trabajo en el desarrollo y aplicaci\u00f3n de BirdPlus<\/a><\/strong>, una aplicaci\u00f3n m\u00f3vil vinculada al Nigerian Bird Atlas Project (NiBAP)<\/a><\/em> que facilita la participaci\u00f3n ciudadana en la recopilaci\u00f3n de datos ornitol\u00f3gicos. Gracias a esta herramienta, se han incorporado a la red de GBIF cientos de miles de observaciones de aves end\u00e9micas y poco representadas en Nigeria. Panshak es el segundo estudiante africano<\/strong> en obtener este galard\u00f3n, que reconoce tanto su innovaci\u00f3n tecnol\u00f3gica como su contribuci\u00f3n a la ciencia ciudadana y a la conservaci\u00f3n en \u00c1frica Occidental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trayectoria de los premiados espa\u00f1oles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Con este anuncio, GBIF contin\u00faa ampliando la lista de j\u00f3venes investigadores reconocidos a nivel mundial. En Espa\u00f1a, el premio ha reca\u00eddo en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os en Paola Monguilod<\/strong> (2024)<\/a>, Armand Rausell Moreno<\/strong> (2022)<\/a>, Julen Torrens Baile<\/strong> (2021)<\/a> y Nora Escribano<\/strong> (2020)<\/a>, adem\u00e1s de Andr\u00e9 Vicente Liz<\/a><\/strong>, que lo obtuvo en 2023 present\u00e1ndose a trav\u00e9s del nodo de GBIF en Portugal. Estos reconocimientos reflejan la creciente relevancia de la comunidad cient\u00edfica vinculada a GBIF en nuestro pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sobre el Graduate Researchers Award<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

El Premio GBIF a Investigadores Graduados 2025<\/strong><\/strong> (anteriormente Young Researchers Award<\/em>) es un programa anual de becas impulsado por GBIF desde 2010. Su objetivo es promover y reconocer la innovaci\u00f3n en investigaci\u00f3n sobre biodiversidad<\/strong> basada en datos compartidos a trav\u00e9s de la red global. Cada a\u00f1o, un jurado internacional independiente selecciona a dos estudiantes de m\u00e1ster o doctorado cuyos trabajos destacan por su originalidad, impacto y contribuci\u00f3n al conocimiento abierto.
