Official launch of the GBIF Spain website

We are all very excited that new GBIF.ES website is at last shown to the public. After a year of working on content and design, it is finally time to share it with the GBIF community. This website aims to present the information in a more clear and structured way, with support for new technologies and in a more maintainable web site. Furthermore, we have a new, more friendly and understandable image that we think better reflects the quality of our work. We hope it will enable us to achieve greater accessibility and to reach a wider audience. We hope you like it and find it useful.

We also want to make the official announcement of the new GBIF.ES Virtual Training Platform, http://elearning.gbif.es, based on the free software Chamilo. After more than 6 years of experience in online training, our goal was to continue offering high quality online courses while making available a more modern, attractive and easy-to-use tool. We already have the first online course underway: GBIF.ES Workshop on Biodiversity Data Quality, that received subscriptions from nearly 200 people from 6 countries. The GBIF Secretariat uses this platform to host their BID (Biodiversity Information for Development) training workshops, a project funded by the European Union and led by GBIF with the aim of increasing the amount of biodiversity information available for use in scientific research and policymaking in the ‘ACP’ nations of sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. We encourage you to sign up for one of our future courses.
