Data from Natusfera now available through GBIF
Citizens contributing data through Natusfera platform (http://natusfera.gbif.es/) have added nearly 20,000 new observations to GBIF.
The Natusfera Citizen Science Observation Dataset gathers research-grade observations having one of the GBIF permitted Creative Commons licenses: CC0, CC BY or CC BY-NC. It includes 19,973 observations of any taxon of any biological group anywhere in the world, although the majority corresponds to the Spanish territory. The data providers of Natusfera are citizens with general interest in learning about biodiversity, its distribution, evolution, etc., and come from a wide range of fields with or without knowledge of biology and taxonomy: hikers, nature guides, technicians of natural parks, ecologists, biologists, forestry engineers, students, teachers, members of nature associations. The images and recordings of this collection are uploaded to GBIF with the resolution and license of origin.
Natusfera is an open platform for biodiversity monitoring available in English, Spanish, Catalan, Galician, and Euskera. Inspired by the existing platform iNaturalist, one of the main goals of this new platform is to facilitate the participation of any collective interested in collaborating in biodiversity monitoring, independent of its size and the capabilities of their members. The project is run by CREAF, ICM-CSIC, the Spanish GBIF Node and the Basque Government.
