Irene Rubio has finished her vocational training in GBIF Spain
In March, Irene Rubio, a student from the Master on Biodiversity of Tropical Areas and its Conservation, hosted by the Menendez Pelayo International University (UIMP) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), has finished her vocational training at the Coordination Unit of GBIF Spain, with a total duration of 40 hours.
She has developed a checklist dataset based on the paper “Propuesta actualizada de nombres comunes en castellano para las mariposas de la península ibérica, Baleares, Ceuta, Melilla y Canarias (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea)“, published in 2017 on the Newsletter of the Aragon Entomological Society (SEA) and authored by Yeray Monasterio et al.
During the learning period, Irene has adapted the content of this paper to the Darwin Core standard; registered the dataset in the IPT (Integrated Publishing Toolkit) of GBIF.ES, an online platform needed to publish biodiversity data through the GBIF network; and, finally, made this dataset available on the GBIF data portals (both at datos.gbif.es and www.gbif.org) where it can be checked with its associated information of vernacular names.
This kind of training is an excellent opportunity to introduce future experts in Nature Conservation in areas such as Biodiversity Informatics. The collaboration of Irene Rubio and Lydia de la Cruz Amo (who was a trainee in GBIF in 2018) allows us to increase the quantity and quality of open biodiversity data and to enhance the services we offer.
Thank you!
