Katia Cezón and Miguel Vega, staff members from GBIF Spain, have joined as mentors the regional meeting of the Biodiversity Information Development (BID) Programme for the Caribbean region. This meeting has taken place on June 25-28 2019 at the Department of Life Sciences, University of the West Indies St. Augustine (Trinidad and Tobago). The event has been organized by GBIF and hosted by the University of the West Indies St. Augustine. It has included:
- A two-day regional meeting (June 25-26) to identify the regional priorities and actions to sustain the mobilization of biodiversity data for science and policy.
- An excursion/bioblitz (June 27) to demonstrate the usefulness of data mobilization through citizen science. This activity was a networking opportunity between project teams and regional partners.
- A workshop (June 28) on Node management – Setting up a national or regional biodiversity information facility.
Apart from this onsite collaboration, GBIF Spain supported the Spanish translation of working materials, provided the eLearning platform which contained online preparatory activities and offered technical support in the management of this platform.
Biodiversity Information for Development (BID) is a multi-year programme funded by the European Union and led by GBIF with the aim of increasing the amount of biodiversity information available for use in scientific research and policymaking.
