Generalitat de Catalunya, new data publisher through GBIF.ES

Recently, the Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Departament de Territori i Sostenibilitat, has become a new publisher in the GBIF.ES network. This institution manages the Catalan system of protected natural areas and Natura 2000, which is currently constituted by 182 protected areas gathering the broad variety of habitats of Catalonia (approximately the 30 % of the entire region). The Departament de Territori i Sostenibilitat is supported by many different research centres, universities and other types of institutions for the development of its politics, studies, regulations and management plans.

The first associated dataset published by this institution is the checklist of Catalan bryophytes, with 833 occurrences coming from herbaria, catalogues and literature, and it has been produced in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In the next months, the Generalitat will publish new datasets from field observations of different taxonomical groups of Catalonia, hosted in the collection Biodiversity of Catalonia.
