GBIF.ES supports the OAPN project «Invasive species on the network: a citizen science initiative for early warning of invasive species in national parks»

GBIF Spain joined the Technical Meeting on Citizen Science and Protected Areas hosted by Europarc España and coordinated by the Community of Bardenas Reales of Navarra under the 2021 Science Week framework. The event took place in the Aguileras Information Centre, in the Bardenas Reales Biosphere Reserve on November 4th, 2021.

During this meeting, several citizen science experiences developed in protected areas were presented. Felipe Castilla (GBIF.ES-CSIC) presented the OAPN project “Invasive species on the network: a citizen science initiative for early warning of invasive species in national parks“, built on the Natusfera application.

This project gathers 16 traditional from each national park. It will allow the OAPN an early detection and response in the management of Invasive Alien Species (IAS). In addition to this project, some guidebooks have been created for the taxonomic groups in the IAS Catalogue.
