The Ebbe Nielsen Challenge 2024 encourages open science
The Ebbe Nielsen Challenge is an annual incentive competition organized by GBIF. The goal of the competition is to recognize innovative tools, both new and existing, that leverage biodiversity data from the GBIF network to promote open science in support of research and policy. strong>. An expert jury will judge the entries according to their relevance, novelty and quality to select a group of winners who will share a prize pool of up to €20,000.
Until August 14, 2024, teams and individuals can submit tools and techniques to this competition that improve the access, quality and usefulness of open biodiversity data.
Ebbe Nielsen Challenge entries can introduce new tools or expand the capabilities of existing ones with new features. Participants have at their disposal numerous examples of winners from previous editions that can serve as inspiration for ideas, themes and approaches worth pursuing.
Nominations should benefit different stakeholder groups, including users, owners, and data stewards. For this purpose, it may be useful to consult the current GBIF communications strategy, which illustrates the way GBIF characterizes its audiences.
The winners of the Ebbe Nielsen Challenge will be announced in late September/early October 2024 at the 31st meeting of the GBIF Board of Directors in Portugal. Dare to participate and contribute your grain of sand to open science!
