Fotografía y Biodiversidad, new biodiversity data provider of GBIF Spain
Fotografía y Biodiversidad association shares more than 100,000 occurrences of invertebrates through GBIF
The non-for profit organization Fotografía y Biodiversidad, which was created in 2010 to consolidate and manage the Biodiversidad Virtual platform, has just made accessible more than 100,000 occurrence records of invertebrates in the GBIF data portals. These data can be now visualized in the Spanish Atlas and in the GBIF global portal.
This data mobilization has been possible thanks to the protocol signed in April 2018 between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Fotografía y Biodiversidad. The goals of the latest organization are the dissemination of the knowledge about our biodiversity, the socialization of science, and the promotion of citizen participation.
Two millions of images
The Biodiversidad Virtual platform gathers around two millions of images distributed in twelve thematic galleries of digital geolocated photographies. Despite the collaboration started last year, in the last days Fotografía y Biodiversidad has upgraded its first dataset (BV Insectarium Virtual), sharing more than 100,000 occurrences of invertebrates.
GBIF Spain plans to have all this data published through GBIF by the end of 2019 to enable its use among the scientific community, environmental managers and any organization or person working in biodiversity conservation.
