GBIF Spain attends the 11th European GBIF Nodes Meeting
The 11th European GBIF Nodes Meeting took place in Oslo (Norway) on May 22-24, 2019, and it was hosted by GBIF Norway in the Natural History Museum.
During the meeting, staff from GBIF Secretariat presented an update of the 2019 GBIF Work Programme and shared the strategy to engage new countries from southern and eastern Europe. Joe Miller (Executive Director of GBIF) advanced some work priorities for the 2020 GBIF Work Programme. There was also time to present different citizen science projects and other initiatives carried out in the region. Last day, the European participants tried to agree on a common work strategy for the next years.
Cristina Villaverde (Technical Coordinator of GBIF Spain), attended this meeting and presented the citizen science project LiquenCity (lichens as bioindicators of Madrid and Barcelona air quality) and informed about the recent progress made in the Living Atlases community.
Many European GBIF Nodes joined this meeting, such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Norway, Poland, Ireland, France, the United Kingdom, Finland, Portugal, and Germany. Other organizations, such as CETAF, Plazi, and GBIF Secretariat, and observers countries, such as Croatia, Armenia, Serbia, and Belarus, were also represented in this event.
