LafargeHolcim España, first Spanish company publishing biodiversity data through GBIF
LafargeHolcim España publishes through GBIF.ES the first dataset coming from a private company in Spain. The publication of this dataset has been made under the framework of the OpenPSD project “Engage and promote the private sector in open biodiversity data publication”, which is part of the CESP Programme (Capacity Enhancement Support Programme), funded by GBIF.
The dataset contains bird occurrences that colonise Spanish quarries. These data gather information about colonies of sand martin (Riparia riparia) associated with mining locations in the centre of the Iberian peninsula and other species which use their nests for their own reproduction.
The recording, management and publication of this dataset has been supported by the International Foundation for Ecosystem Restoration (Fundación FIRE) and the University of Alcalá.
GBIF Spain appreciates the interest and support given by LafargeHolcim España as the first private company publishing biodiversity data in our country and we hope this dataset may be the trigger to other companies from the private sector to do their bit in relation to a better knowledge of the global biodiversity.
