First meetings with Spanish private companies under the OpenPSD project

The OpenPSD – Engage and promote the private sector in open biodiversity data publication project is aimed to engage and promote biodiversity data publication and use by the private sector through workshops, documentation targeted to the private sector and mentoring. During the first phase of the project, GBIF Spain has met three different private companies to explore the possibilities of their participation in GBIF as publishers. These companies are:

  • LafargeHolcim España (construction work materials) is already registered in GBIF and GBIF.ES and working on the standardization of their first datasets from biodiversity monitoring studies and restoration projects developed in their quarries. This work is being made in collaboration with the University of Castilla La Mancha and the University of Alcalá de Henares.
  • SUEZ (water and waste treatment) is already registered in GBIF and GBIF.ES and working in the publication of their first dataset on bird observations in its wastewater treatment plants. This work is being made in collaboration with the Catalan Ornithology Institute.
  • Red Eléctrica de España (electricity infrastructure): they have shown great interest in the publication of biodiversity data through GBIF by including a publication clause in their future collaboration contracts and/or by publishing their own biodiversity data or already-generated data from collaborative institutions.

The OpenPSD project has been granted by the Capacity Enhancement Support Programme (CESP) Programme, funded by GBIF. This programme offers excellent opportunities to strengthen biodiversity publisher and user networks.

If you work in any Spanish company from the private sector which can be interested in the openly and freely publication of its biodiversity data in GBIF, please, contact us at info@gbif.es.
