2018 Meeting on Biodiversity Information and Environmental Administrations in Andorra La Vella
The 10th Meeting on Biodiversity Information and Environmental Administrations took place on 24-25 October 2018 in Andorra La Vella. The event was organized by the Centre d’Estudis de la Neu i de la Muntanya d’Andorra de l’Institut d’Estudis Andorrans (CENMA-IEA), GBIF Andorra and GBIF Spain and its main goal was to create a meeting point for public officers related to biodiversity management. These meetings have been historically hosted in different Spanish counties to strengthen the relationships among different administrations, enhance the access to biodiversity data and to make progress in the development of bioinformatic tools.
This year presentations were focused on matters such as the operation of GBIF Andorra, GBIF International 2019 work plan related to public administrations, initiatives to manage natural parks of Andorra or how international organizations such as IUCN and RAMSAR use open biodiversity data. There was also room to discuss how to improve the communication between GBIF.ES and the public administrations, barriers found by public administrations when publishing biodiversity data and ways to face these barriers.
More than 30 people from Andorra and Spanish environmental administrations (Andalusia, Aragon, Valencian Community, Navarre, Catalonia, Basque Country) attended the meeting which concluded with a technical field trip to the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, declared as a World Heritage by UNESCO.
All work materials (presentations, conclusions, and pictures) are already available at the meeting website.
