Description
The IEO-CSIC National Center, dependent on the Ministry of Science and Innovation, created in 1914, is dedicated to research in marine sciences, especially in relation to scientific knowledge of the oceans, the sustainability of fishing resources and the marine environment. In addition to his dedication to basic and applied research, it also provides scientific and technological advice to administrations on matters related to oceanography and marine sciences. The IEO-CSIC has its headquarters in Madrid and nine coastal oceanographic centers, many of which have important zoological collections that are available to the international scientific community. The Oceanographic Center of the Canary Islands, located in S/C de Tenerife, has two functional collections (Marine Fauna Collection and Biological Samples) of species from the West African coast and the Antarctic continent, but also a large volume of data on fish and benthic invertebrates of the Canary Islands. These data have been collected in several projects and studies on marine protected areas of the Canary Islands or habitats of community interest, using various sampling methods, including video and photography images taken with towed sleds and ROVs stand out.Overall information
