ALA-LAs Technical Workshop (Madrid, March 2025)
This workshop aims to strengthen collaboration and efficiency in Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) related developments, specifically targeting developers and managers within the Living Atlases (LAs) community. It is not an introductory or training workshop; rather, it is designed specifically for developers and teams actively maintaining and adapting biodiversity data portals based on the ALA platform.
The workshop is structured in two streams: one for developers and one for managers. It was suggested and welcomed to introduce a time frame dimension with two aspects. In the long term, the goal is to advance a common strategic framework. In the short term, with a focus on addressing concrete development issues, so developers can return home with practical solutions and approaches they can apply.
Venue: Real Jardín Botánico-CSIC. Madrid. Spain
Dates: March 11-14, 2025
Background: As part of the SPNHC-TDWG 2024 Conference, a productive and thought provoking session around "Biodiversity Data, Software and Workflows: Beyond observations, beyond biodiversity (SYM07)" took place. The session had a strong focus on ALA community developments and as a result, the idea of reviving the technical meetings around ALA-LAs, which had ceased during the pandemic, was proposed. Some members of the LAs community (Flanders, France, Sweden and Spain) strongly believe in the necessity and potential of these meetings, leading to the organization of this workshop.
